On Board the QM2 Day 1

Tuesday, June 8,

Up and about…..big decision….where to eat? Way too many choices.

It was distinctly cooler on the decks of the ship today. There were many fewer people sitting on the deck chairs. We did a couple of stints until our hands got to cold to hold the books…..inside for tea.

Each evening a ship’s newspaper is delivered to the stateroom detailing the highpoints of the voyage and all the upcoming events of the next day, including schedules of classes, events, plays, music, and other activities.

We chose to join a tour of the public places on the ship, led by a jolly young man. Poor guy was just starting the tour when a strange female passenger came from the casino to yell at him about the slot machines having no employees. She continued ranting long enough that the people in the tour started making fun of her. The tour guide definitely got the sympathy.

The planetarium offers several shows a day. Yep, there is a planetarium on board. The show was about the formation of the solar system, “Cosmic Collisions.” Way awesome, except for my seat that didn’t work.

Neil went to a lecture about Columbus....apparently poor Columbus is buried in two places….a cool trick. At least a couple of places claim to have his body. I went to the library again. Almost finished with my second book.

Before dinner the Commodore’s Reception was held….semi formal dress please. At the entrance we were provided with a shot of hand disinfectant, asked our names, announced to the Commodore, and had our picture taken with the Commodore. Very formal. Loved the white gloved waiters with the champagne and wine and the canapés.

After dinner we went to a play presented by the Cunard players. The musical review was called “Crazy in Love” complete with original music and music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s…..all older than the people singing it. The theater is called the Royal Court Theater and seats 1,000 people. However, we think they need to revise the number a bit---to 995 people. We watched at least 18 people crawl over the people in the row in front of us…only to come back out within 30 seconds….obstructed view…..something about the railing mounted on the balcony.

Since people thought that they should pretend the elevator was a reenactment of the car stuffings from the 60s….Nancy, who doesn’t like stuffed elevator, got off and climbed the stairs to the seventh floor….most enjoyable company on the stairs.

Tea, a turn about deck 7, and bed.

7,351 steps today
