Note from yesterday. We saw and visited with the young couple we ate lunch with on the train on Saturday. We met them again at the Rockefeller Building; such a big city to run across two people. We were all quite surprises.
Slept in our wonderfully comfy bed--which Marriott tells me I can have one at home for a mere $1400. Okay, we won’t get the home version anytime soon. We walked down Fifth Avenue and found breakfast for considerably less than the $14.95 one offered by the Marriott. The European CafĂ© prepares a mean omelet for a mere 3.99.
We continued our walk…..decided to go back to the hotel via Madison Avenue. We then had to do the packing thing. As we were getting ready to put our luggage tags on the suitcases for Cunard I found that the stateroom numbers on the tags I printed on Thursday didn’t match the one I printed on Wednesday. There was only a huge momentary moment of panic…I figured I had somehow entered the wrong code and printed someone else’s tags. After a quick and unsuccessful computer search, Cunard was called. They said not a mistake; we’ve upgraded you. Thus, we went from the 4th deck with a small window to the 8th deck (more desirable) with a balcony (even though it is obstructed view). We also moved tables In the dining room.
We had a private car service deliver us to the Brooklyn Pier….Building 112….Cunard Line Pier. That was really sweet. We went through several check points and were finally delivered to the sign in desk where we received our on board ID card, also used to charage any purchase on board ship…..no cash taken anywhere on board ship, except the casino. We were boarded with group #74 and up the gangplank we went. First view of the ship….what opulence….they’re really letting this Iowa person on this ship.
Our luggage was delivered to our stateroom shortly. Ok, 5 of the 6 bags were delivered ...all except Nancy's bag with all of her clothes....I did have formal clothes. Dexter, our steward, said that he would try to locate it. Hooray! It showed up as we sailed.
The NYPD police boat escorted us from the harbor. Passing the Statue of Liberty was magnificent. Although we wanted to stay out for the passing under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge…dinner called. Being late for your dinner service is not appreciated. We eat in the first call at 6:00 PM. Dinner was unbelievable…Perhaps food should be its own entry.
After dinner we did several turns…..3 trips around deck 7 equals 1.1 miles
Then we finally went to our stateroom, sat on the balcony and finally drank the small bottle of champagne (also a Deck 8 perk) provided by Cunard.
12,901 steps yesterday as we walked around New York.
It is quite fun listening to all of the accents heard on board ship…
