Daily life on vacation

Just thought we needed some pictures to liven up a boring blog.

Last night we figured out what we were doing in our limited time here. A trip to the transportation Museum in York and a trip up north to the northern coast of Scotland. Today the task was to get ready for those trips and do some of the tasks we had put off since we are running of time. Up, bed put away, breakfast, clean and dressed. However, this morning we worked on sorting some of our accumulated stuff and laundry. Nancy ordered the tickets online for York and Thurso.

We went out to the vendors that were already set-up for this weekend’s Merchant City Festival, just to see and get some lunch. We had a great bratwurst from a French vendor. Then we tried some potatoes from a German vendor. Then it was off to deal with the errands…souvenirs, tickets, groceries. City center was "nuts" today……there were people everywhere….the sun was shining and there is the Merchant City Festival this weekend.

Getting the train tickets proved to be an easy adventure. Since I had ordered them on-line, I had to go to the station to get the tickets from the automatic ticket machine. Up to the ticket counter I went….George was the agent. I told George that I needed help since I had been told that I needed a chip in my credit card to make it work. Since we Americans don’t have the chip, using a credit card is sometimes a problem. George said that all Scots think that is true, but apparently it is not. Off to the machine we went….George came as well. George helped us get our tickets to York, Thurso, and Southampton….9 cards for York (two tickets each way, two seat reservation cards each way, and a collection card. It is even worse for Thurso since we have several train changes to accomplish. I think he really enjoyed helping us…he stayed until we had all of the tickets collected. The chip in the credit card is automatically read and the information transmitted. The customer inserts the card....the clerk never touches it.

Then we went back to the flat and worked on the blogs and pictures until Pete called and asked if we wanted to go out with Jess and him after work. Pete came to the flat, collected us, and we met Jess at a pub by Queens Street Station.. Later we went to another pub/restaurant named AdLib where Neil and Jess had great chicken sandwiches, Pete had a hamburger, and I had the best macaroni and cheese I have ever tasted. We all shared and tasted each other’s food.

Back to the flat and bed….we had to get up to catch a very early train.
